After noting the absence of sizable numbers of journalists from
developing countries at global sporting events such as the Olympics,
Mainland China has taken 54 journalists from 16 developing countries
to cover the Olympics. China’s special envoy for African Affairs,
Liu Guijin said at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday that
the trip’s purpose is exposing more African journalists to bigger
sporting events, a hardship in the past due to limited resources.
Many journalists in developing countries without ring-side
opportunities rely on downloading information from the internet.
Among the countries selected are Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia
and Lesotho.
